Transformice Adventures

2D Action-RPG in the world of Transformice

Timelapse – Design & construction

PROJECT NAME

Transformice Adventures

PLATFORM

PC, Mac OSX, Linux

(Steam & Web browser)

TFMA is an Action-RPG with a 2D cartoon aesthetic, centered around mice real-time battles and rogue-lite elements. The game is set in a cartoony and huge world, at least when you're a mouse!

You play as a mouse and have to venture on an adventure made of several levels. You collect Elisah's Gifts, gameplay modificator that may or may not help you reach the harder levels.

Level Design

I directed the whole level pipeline of the project, from the design to the creation and test. I wanted to focus on immersion and the use of the perspective to make the world more lively, adding what the original Transformice lacked.

The game's core gameplay being fights, the most important part were the arenas. Taking into account the restrictive gameplay and state of the prototype, I wanted to offer different ambience and feelings through the arenas' shapes, sizes and assets. The goal was to tone down the repetitive aspect of the game.

My tasks included :

 - Establishing rules and guidelines for levels, dungeon layouts and arena size regarding to gameplay restrictions.

  1. - Level design : sketched and in-game layout, collision, arena design.

- Level building : construction based on the blocking, lighting.

  1.  - Close exchanges with artists to design the different biomes regarding level design and narrative restrictions, to precise specific needs in assets.

- Documentation.

The game was still at a prototype state. A total of 3 complete functioning dungeons and a village were made, as well as several small showcase levels, prototype layouts and video footage scenes.

OTHER ROLES :

Narrative Design

I directed all the narrative part of the project, designing and writing most of the game's text and story. I worked closely with artists to put visuals on the different elements of the world I designed.

  1.  - Writing of a scenario based upon existing lore and elements of the original game.
  2.  - Design of new characters and development of existing ones.
  3.  - World Building, design of a timeline, civilisations and their interactions.
  4.  - Writing of in-game dialogues.

Kickstarter Campaign

  1. I've worked on setting up and handling a Kickstarter Campaign to help fund the game's development. This included :

  2. - Organizing the overall campaign (calendar, page…).
  3. - Designing the reward pledges.
  4. - Writing of text and news.
  5. - Designing, shooting and editing of videos (presentation, gameplay, teaser).
